Hello colleagues,
Thanks to those of you who attended yesterday's live CAS Updates & Policy Review webinar. The webinar recording and slide deck are now available and can be found in the Community library.
Based on a few of the received questions, below is some follow up information related to the SCOTUS decision after consulting with AACP's Associate Director of Policy and Strategic Engagement:
Firstly, here is AACP's previously shared statement on the SCOTUS ruling:
"AACP is aware of the SCOTUS ruling in the cases against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina addressing race-conscious admissions. Earlier this year we issued a brief informing members of both cases and signed a joint statement from the Federation of the Associations of the Schools of the Health Professions that reflects our concerns and ideals regarding the importance of diversity in health professions education and allowing schools the freedom to provide necessary academic content for their mission. In the coming months AACP will be holding virtual discussion sessions, with experts from within and outside of academia, to help our schools navigate this transition."
Regarding scholarships, the simple answer is no, the SCOTUS decision does not technically affect scholarships or student aid. However, our Associate Director of Policy and Strategic Engagement shared that this does not mean there won't be future legislation which may prohibit race-based scholarships. It will be important to stay tuned for future developments.
Our internal team will continue to work with the Federation of the Associations of the Schools of the Health Professions and stay on top of developments related to the decision.
Lastly, as a reminder, the PharmCAS application and WebAdMIT for the 2023-2024 cycle will open on Thursday, July 13. The Transfer settings feature will also be available upon launch.
Thanks,
Katie
