Breaking Barriers: Empowering Communication in Healthcare for Patients with Limited English Proficie

Individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) have worse healthcare access and report lower quality of care compared to individuals who are proficient in English. This webinar will focus on identifying barriers to effective cross-cultural communication. In addition, the session will provide best practices and helpful resources to improve communication with patients with limited English proficiency.

Objectives:

• Describe the impact of racial, ethnic and linguistic concordance on healthcare utilization and health outcomes
• Identify clinician factors associated with poor quality patient-clinician communication among patients with limited English proficiency (LEP)
• Recognize barriers to effective cross-cultural communication
• Describe best practices and resources to improve patient-clinician communication with LEP patients
