Integrating 2022 COEPAs into Pharmacy Skills Courses for Professional Identity

This session will explore strategies for fully integrating the revised COEPAs into pharmacy skills laboratory curricula, with emphasis on assessments, rubrics, scaffolding of entrustable professional activities, and approaches that enhance student readiness for experiential rotations. Presenters will also demonstrate how aligning lab activities with real-world pharmacy practice, through practitioner insights and career-focused reflections, can strengthen professional identity formation. Attendees will gain practical examples of course design, assessment redesign, and methods to help students connect skills development to future career pathways. Challenges and solutions for implementation across skills courses will also be discussed.

Objectives:

  • Discuss the degree of integration and challenges of incorporating revised COEPAs and entrustable levels in skills laboratory courses.
  • Describe the design of skills laboratory assessments (rubrics) that map to COEPA domains and subdomains.
  • Describe the connection between professional identity development and skills lab activities.
  • Discuss opportunities for institutions to introduce skills in various practice settings while encouraging professional identity formation.
