No Room for Error: Rethinking How We Teach Calculations

When:  Jun 25, 2026 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

Hosted by the Pediatric Pharmacy SIG

Calculations are a foundational skill that pharmacists must be able to approach with accuracy and confidence due to the direct impact on patient safety and therapeutic outcomes. Pharmacy educators are facing challenges ensuring students retain and confidently apply this skill throughout the pharmacy curriculum. This webinar brings together pediatric pharmacy educators and practicing clinicians to challenge traditional approaches and share innovative strategies for teaching calculations across the PharmD curriculum. Participants will leave with actionable ideas to reinforce calculations competencies, close learning gaps, and better prepare student pharmacists for safe and effective patient care.

Objectives:

  • Identify common challenges and gaps in teaching and learning calculations within the PharmD curriculum.
  • Compare different instructional strategies (e.g., scaffolding, case-based learning, simulation) to enhance student mastery of calculations across courses and experiences.
  • Apply practical teaching tools and approaches shared by faculty to improve student confidence and competence in calculations.
