Caught Between Two Worlds: How Parents in Academic Pharmacy Navigate Work and Family

The phrase “work/life balance” is often thrown around as a key for employee wellbeing. As faculty, do any of us actually achieve this? Surges in work or family life can feel like walking a tightrope youʼre in danger of falling from. This session presents current research into work-family conflict and family-work conflict among pharmacy faculty with dependent children. Attendees will identify individual and institutional factors that perpetuate or mitigate these conflicts.

Objectives:

• Summarize the national trends of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) in US pharmacy faculty with children​
• Identify key individual and institutional factors that contribute to work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) among academic pharmacy faculty with dependent children.
• Describe practices to mitigate work-family conflict and family-work conflict
