New Priority Deadline Option Coming in 2021-2022

  • 1.  New Priority Deadline Option Coming in 2021-2022

    Posted 03-10-2021 09:34 AM

Beginning in the 2021-2022 admissions cycle, participating colleges and schools will be able to designate a "priority" (preferred, non-binding) application deadline in addition to their final (enforced) PharmCAS deadline. The purpose of the priority deadline option is to encourage applicants to apply earlier in the cycle.

    • Priority deadlines will be displayed to applicants in the PharmCAS application and School Directory in addition to the final (enforced) deadlines.
    • Priority deadlines will not be enforced by PharmCAS, and therefore, applicants can apply to a program after its priority deadline has passed.
    • PharmCAS will not expedite verification or processing for applications submitted by a program's priority deadline.
    • Priority deadlines cannot be changed or extended after the cycle launches.
    • Schools will continue to have the option of extending the final (enforced) deadline through June.
    • Priority deadline date options for schools will align with those for the final (enforced) deadlines and include a new October option (Oct 1, Nov 1, Dec 1, Jan 4, Feb 1, Mar 1, Apr 1, & May 2).
    • Schools can choose not to have a priority deadline, if desired.

    • If your school decides to set a priority deadline, consider whether it will be associated with one or more incentives to encourage applicants to apply early, such as preferred admission or interview consideration, enrollment perks (e.g., preferred course selection), facility perks (e.g., preferred parking), fee waivers, or scholarship eligibility.
    • Your school will have an opportunity to set a priority deadline in the Program Application Deadline section of the 2021-2022 PharmCAS School Directory beginning in mid-May:
      • Priority Deadline: Select a priority deadline date or "none" from the list.
      • Priority Deadline Description [text]: If a priority deadline is selected, describe the incentives and requirements associated with the priority deadline, if any.
      • Final Deadline: Select a final (enforced) deadline from the list.
      • Final Deadline Description [text]: As done now, use this box to provide any additional details regarding the school's final (enforced) deadline.
    • Applicants will be provided with language about the meaning of priority deadlines in PharmCAS.

As a reminder, Early Decision will no longer be available in PharmCAS beginning in the 2021-2022 (upcoming) admissions cycle for applicants applying for fall 2022 enrollment.
