Incorporating therapeutic and non-therapeutic geriatric concepts into skills based labs and OSCEs

Geriatrics is recognized as an important topic within pharmacy education, but many schools find it difficult to find the appropriate amount of time to devote to it within the curriculum. Most pharmacy programs offer skills-based labs and/or Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs) to their students. In this webinar, three faculty give examples of how geriatric specific topics can be implemented into existing skills labs and OSCE events. Participants will be asked to share ideas with the group regarding implementation of geriatric concepts into skills labs and OSCEs at the conclusion of the presentation. 


  • Identify three ways geriatric specific topics can be inserted into existing skills-based labs and OSCE activity or component.
  • Discuss resources, barriers, and lessons learned for implementing geriatrics into skills based labs and OSCEs. 
  • Determine if geriatric topics can be implemented into skills-based labs and OSCEs at your institution.
