RE: PharmCAS Volume Update - Dec 2018

Attached is the latest PharmCAS applicant and application update for the current 2018-2019 cycle by program type and region to date. "Primary college attended" data for current PharmCAS applicants is also attached.

The total number of PharmCAS applicants with verified status has increased by 1.4% as compared to this point last year. Unfortunately, the number of applications (designations) has declined by 19.0% to date. Therefore, while slightly more individuals have verified application status, they are applying to fewer institutions on average: 2.36 versus 2.75 at this time last year. As a result, the mean number of applications per program has decreased: 154 versus 209 last year. The increase in Early Decision participation is a contributing factor in the decline in designations. To view trend data for past cycles, please download the 2017-2018 PharmCAS Applicant Data Report (PDF) via Connect.

While we recognize that competition for applicants is at an all-time high, this is a friendly reminder that colleges and schools in PharmCAS agree not to consider or invite any applicants to interview before their applications move to verified status in WebAdMIT. See page 15 of the PharmCAS School Manual.

FYI - In January 2019 staff will share a new metrics report that outlines the association's activities in support of AACP Strategic Priority #1 and enriching the applicant pipeline. We warmly welcome any thoughts or questions in the meantime.
