    Hi Jeanie,

No decisions have been made to date relative to the 2021 Virtual Pharmacy School Fairs, however, more information will be shared as it becomes available. Members are welcome to share their thoughts on the value of these online events and other virtual recruitment strategies with us in the meantime.

    Thanks,

    Rosie

    Hi Rosie,

Based on your statement that you are open to comments relative to the virtual events I would like to offer one. I think that having frequent events is probably a good thing for the applicants so I would be in favor of continuing this.

What I would like some evaluation on is the length. At my institution, we typically man for the entire duration and average very few drop-ins. If there are frequent events, I wonder if the duration could be shortened. Perhaps the block of time would need to rotate to accommodate different time zones. It is true that I can multitask while waiting for drop-ins but I am tethered to my computer during that time so it does limit what I get done in the day. Just something to consider. Maybe others are getting a lot more foot traffic.

    Mary

    Thanks Mary,

Our recruiter at USC agrees. This is Allison's response:

I think a lot of us may feel this way and some changes need to be made to the platforms used, like handshake, aren't designed for graduate fairs. They're designed more for hiring employees. So this should be considered as we move forward with this "temporary normal" that we're in.

The drop ins have been very few. I thought doing these virtually would expand our reach, but so far, no. I think students get more excited by our live presence and coming to an event than by online engagement just to get information about graduate programs. They don't get to attend a live "event" and meet us or pick up swag or fliers. The 1:1 meetings have been good, though. For students who sign up, we've had extended conversations that were very productive.

    Thank you and Fight on!

I too agree with comments made by Mary.  In addition, after yesterday's event, additional promotional emphasis needs to be placed by AACP that this is a pharmacy career fair.  Yesterday there were many students from 2 high schools in particular which were definitely more interested in our university for admission and not pharmacy.

    Hi everyone,

I agree with Mary's suggestion about having rotating times and also possibly shortening the length of the fair. While it is "easy" enough for us at MCW to manage the chatroom throughout the day, it does require that meetings and other events not be scheduled for that day. We've noticed that we typically have the most participants between 11am - 3pm central. Can AACP look at surveying students to see what times work best for them and then adjust the hours accordingly?

I also think that we should look at changing the platform. CareerEco, while convenient and easy to use, is somewhat limited. I like the idea of using a platform like Zoom, where students can also use their camera and microphone to ask questions. From there, AACP can create school specific breakout rooms for each participating school.

Another possible idea with using Zoom is to have AACP come up with a webform and each participating school fills out the form with their information, including a Zoom link, hours, and other pertinent information that the student will need access to. On the day of the event, students will be able to see a display of all of the school's virtual visit links (or they can sign up for specific schools), and enter the individual rooms.

I've uploaded a small sample of what the webform could look like.

I wholeheartedly agree with Steven.  It's time to move on from CareerEco.

AACP is currently exploring alternative virtual vendors that may provide a more engaging experience for prospective students.  Please feel free to share with me your recommendation for vendors, as well as other innovative virtual recruitment initiatives AACP could host besides the virtual fair. Your feedback and suggestions on this matter have been very helpful.

    Thanks,

    Rosie

I actually prefer CareerEco to Handshake. The list of attendees report from CareerEco is much better ROI than anything we could get from Handshake, Zoom, or any other similar platform. Those will not feed the inquiry pool and the level of engagement is low. Until another platform innovates to meet this need I do not see many other alternatives.

Andrew I do agree with you. While I do not like the low attendance and time commitment of CareerEco, the ability to have the list is a huge plus and this should be a consideration when examining any other platform.

I would agree with Aimee and Andrew here.  The list of attendees report is a huge benefit to the CareerEco fairs so I hope that is considered when exploring other options.

I also agree and feel that CareerEco is better designed to meet the needs of higher education.  Though Handshake is offering higher education fairs, the platform still caters to its employment/internship segment.

I'm not sure the platform is the issue with these fairs.  It seems that prospective students are simply not very interested in the graduate fair format overall.  Whether in-person or online, attendance at fairs continues to dwindle.

I agree, the student information is extremely valuable to all of us. I think the way we could still capture attendees contact and other valuable information would be for them to RSVP. From there, a similar spreadsheet could be dispersed to those of us who use that information.

Zoom also has a registration feature (Setting up registration for a meeting) which allows for creation of a registration form for attendees to fill out. I'm sure there are other options out there that would be available for AACP to use.

Overall, I think students may be a bit burned out due to COVID19 and being in a virtual space.
