Hi everyone,
I agree with Mary's suggestion about having rotating times and also possibly shortening the length of the fair. While it is "easy" enough for us at MCW to manage the chatroom throughout the day, it does require that meetings and other events not be scheduled for that day. We've noticed that we typically have the most participants between 11am - 3pm central. Can AACP look at surveying students to see what times work best for them and then adjust the hours accordingly?
I also think that we should look at changing the platform. CareerEco, while convenient and easy to use, is somewhat limited. I like the idea of using a platform like Zoom, where students can also use their camera and microphone to ask questions. From there, AACP can create school specific breakout rooms for each participating school.
Another possible idea with using Zoom is to have AACP come up with a webform and each participating school fills out the form with their information, including a Zoom link, hours, and other pertinent information that the student will need access to. On the day of the event, students will be able to see a display of all of the school's virtual visit links (or they can sign up for specific schools), and enter the individual rooms.
I've uploaded a small sample of what the webform could look like.

I too agree with comments made by Mary. In addition, after yesterday's event, additional promotional emphasis needs to be placed by AACP that this is a pharmacy career fair. Yesterday there were many students from 2 high schools in particular which were definitely more interested in our university for admission and not pharmacy.

Thanks Mary,
Our recruiter at USC agrees. This is Allison's response:
I think a lot of us may feel this way and some changes need to be made to the platforms used, like handshake, aren't designed for graduate fairs. They're designed more for hiring employees. So this should be considered as we move forward with this "temporary normal" that we're in.
The drop ins have been very few. I thought doing these virtually would expand our reach, but so far, no. I think students get more excited by our live presence and coming to an event than by online engagement just to get information about graduate programs. They don't get to attend a live "event" and meet us or pick up swag or fliers. The 1:1 meetings have been good, though. For students who sign up, we've had extended conversations that were very productive.
Thank you and Fight on!

Hi Rosie,
Based on your statement that you are open to comments relative to the virtual events I would like to offer one. I think that having frequent events is probably a good thing for the applicants so I would be in favor of continuing this.
What I would like some evaluation on is the length. At my institution, we typically man for the entire duration and average very few drop-ins. If there are frequent events, I wonder if the duration could be shortened. Perhaps the block of time would need to rotate to accommodate different time zones. It is true that I can multitask while waiting for drop-ins but I am tethered to my computer during that time so it does limit what I get done in the day. Just something to consider. Maybe others are getting a lot more foot traffic.
Mary
