2021-2022 (CURRENT) VOLUME TO DATE
Attached is the latest PharmCAS applicant volume report as of October 2 versus the same time last year. The total number of applicant accounts in the system declined by -8.7%, and the number of applicants with Submitted status declined by -23.2%. The total number of applications increased by +11.9%, and submitted applications increased by +8.2% The mean number of submitted applications per applicant grew from 1.72 in 2020 to 2.54 in 2021. The absence of Early Decision likely contributed to a decline in the number of applicants who applied early in the cycle and an increase in mean designations. A new table on page 5 provides application volume by
priority (non-binding) deadline. Schools with an October priority deadline had more applications on average compared to programs with later or no priority deadlines. It is too soon to know whether priority deadlines may significantly influence applicant behavior later in the cycle.
